Learners License Driver Training Program

One of the biggest barriers to employment is a lack of having a driver’s license.

Get your Class 7 Learners License during the two-day course. 

Offered to First Nations, Inuit and Métis people living in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

This free training course includes theory and the written exam. This will be two full days starting at 9am and ending at 4pm. 

To obtain a class 7 learner's driver's licence you must:

  • be 14 years of age or older

  • pass a vision screening

  • pass a knowledge test on the rules of the road

  • have parental consent if you are under 18 years of age

  • have valid identification

Learner's conditions:

  • You must hold a learner's driver's licence (class 7) for at least one year.

  • You must be accompanied by a fully licensed (non-GDL probationary) driver who is 18 years of age or older and is seated next to you.

  • You are not permitted to drive from midnight to 5 a.m.

  • You are not permitted to have more passengers than seat belts.

  • You will be suspended if you accumulate eight or more demerit points.

  • You must have zero level of alcohol and drug when driving (or riding a motorcycle).

Knowledge Test Class 7:

To obtain your learner's driver's licence, you will need to pass a knowledge test. You can take your knowledge test at most Alberta Registry Agent offices. The test is based on questions taken from the Learners Licence guide. You will be asked about safe driving practices, driving laws and road signs. The test is 30 multiple choice questions, and you must score a minimum of 25 correct responses out of 30 to pass the test. You will do the test on a computer.

Can I have an Audio Test?

Yes, you will need to request this prior to your written exam, and you will be required to have your own set of headphones.
